General bag care
Most leather care or leather cleaning products contain waxes and oils that are simply a little ‘too much’ for the leather used in handbags. Glowbag, on the other hand, is water-based and completely dispenses with the use of wax and instead provides the leather with the right amount of moisture and care - without leaving any residue. This gives the leather of your bag a natural shine. Water-based care products are not new in leather care, but they are rare. Many of the available products also contain alcohol and other chemical components. Glowbag's patented formula dispenses with all of this and instead relies on surfactants and care substances of natural origin - for greater sustainability.
This depends on whether the leather is dyed through or surface-dyed and whether a protective sealant is present:
Regular cleaning and care extends the lifespan and ensures that the original beauty of the bag is preserved for as long as possible. Glowbag protects against dirt, discoloration, moisture and other harmful influences.
The natural GLOWBAG formula is water based only!
Wax-based leather care products, on the other hand, seal in dirt instead of removing it. On top of that, they leave behind light-coloured residues. This in turn impairs the original appearance and makes the leather harder. The colour appears paler and duller. The sticky residue then often attracts dust and dirt. In contrast, the water-based GLOWBAG formula enables real cleaning without residue. The leather can breathe and better absorb the subsequent care. The colour appears refreshed and the leather of the handbag remains supple and natural.
We recommend cleaning and maintaining your handbag every three to six months. However, this also depends on the frequency of use. The leather will also appreciate an extra treatment with the Glow Conditioner every now and then.
Glowbag is suitable for most types of smooth leather. Also for canvas, artificial or patent leather. However, it is recommended to carry out a small test on an inconspicuous area before use to ensure that the product is compatible with the leather.
Yes, Glowbag is suitable for all leather colours. It not only cares for the leather, but also helps to keep the colours fresh and vibrant. However, as always, we recommend testing on an inconspicuous area before first use.
In light rain, the Glow Conditioner already offers a certain degree of moisture protection. For heavier moisture or snowfall, we recommend an additional waterproofing spray. Sensitive types of leather such as vachetta - e.g. Louis Vuitton - should be impregnated immediately after purchase, as the conditioner is not sufficient here. Our recommendation: Carbon Pro from Collonil.
Yes - this can happen with sensitive or particularly absorbent leather. The cleaner may initially leave darker, damp-looking patches that disappear completely when it dries. Cleaning can be carried out as normal. It is best to use a soft brush and then allow the leather to air dry well Important: Glowbag is not suitable for suede, nubuck, nappa leather or other sensitive, open-textured types of leather.
Please always test the product on an inconspicuous area before use.
The bristles of the Glowbrush are made from natural horsehair. These are perfect for leather care. Their softness and fineness allow the leather to be treated gently without damaging it. The transfer of natural oils during brushing nourishes the leather and gives it an attractive shine. The antistatic properties of horsehair prevent the attraction of dust and dirt, which is important to avoid scratches. Horsehair brushes are also hard-wearing and durable. Thanks to their ability to distribute care products evenly, they contribute effectively to the preservation and care of various leather surfaces.
Yes - Glowbag relies on natural ingredients and completely dispenses with alcohol, ammonia and other aggressive chemicals. The formula is water-based, gentle on the environment and safe to use - even for sensitive types of leather.
Firstly, prepare a wipeable surface or alternatively a towel before spraying the bag generously with the Glow Cleaner. We recommend clean, lint-free cotton or microfibre cloths for wiping or working in.
For heavier soiling or for deep pore cleaning, you can lather up the cleaner in advance with the Glow Brush - this makes the cleaning effect even more intensive.
Application Glowbag
Yes - we recommend that you always test Glowbag on an inconspicuous area before using it for the first time. Leather is a natural material and can react differently to care products depending on the colouring, sealing or pre-treatment, so to make sure that your leather is colourfast, apply some Glow Cleaner to a clean microfibre cloth (not directly to the leather - except for canvas) and dab it carefully over a small area.
If the colour comes off the cloth, this is an indication that the colour layer is not completely sealed or is already showing signs of wear. In this case, we recommend proceeding with particular caution - for example, by only applying the cleaner over the cloth and focussing on spot cleaning. the same applies to the conditioner: test first - then apply selectively.
1. Glow Cleaner: First, the leather is cleaned with the Cleaner to remove dirt and residues.
2. Glow conditioner: The conditioner then nourishes the leather and provides an anti-ageing effect as well as light protection against UV rays and moisture.
The Glowbag formula is deliberately water-based and wax-free. In contrast to wax-based leather care products, which apply a protective layer, Glowbag takes a different approach. Wax-based care products seal in dirt instead of removing it. This ‘wax layer’ impairs the original appearance of the bag as it leaves light-coloured residues in the pores of the leather and on the seams. This wax layer makes the leather firmer and heavier, and the slightly sticky residue attracts dust and dirt more easily. In contrast, Glowbag's water-based formula allows for easy and even application, aids stain removal and does not interfere with the natural breathing of the leather. In this way, the bags retain their original colour and the leather remains supple.
Yes, you can also use Glowbag for other leather products - for example for shoes, belts or purses. The only important thing is that you first test in an inconspicuous area to see whether the leather tolerates the product well. Every leather is different - so it's better to test once more.
Yes, you can clean canvas bags very well with the Glow Cleaner - the inner lining can also be cleaned very easily with it and the brush. However, you should only apply the conditioner to the leather parts.
Yes, you can also clean and care for smooth leather shoes and trainers with Glowbag - especially the sensitive leather surfaces.
As shoes are particularly exposed to wear and weather, we also recommend a special wax-based shoe care product to keep the leather supple in the long term.
No, Glowbag is not suitable for this. Cleaning and care products specially designed for lambskin shoes should be used.
The Glow Brush is made from real, natural horsehair - so it is possible that a few loose hairs may come loose the first time you use it. This is completely normal and not a sign of poor quality.
Our brushes are made by hand and natural hair is never completely uniform - unlike synthetic bristles. This will disappear after the first shake or use and you will be able to enjoy your brush for a long time.
Basically yes - you can also freshen up furniture leather with the Glow Cleaner and Conditioner from time to time. It is important that you test how the leather reacts on a concealed area beforehand. The effect can vary depending on the type and pre-treatment of the leather.
If possible, also follow the manufacturer's care recommendations.
Yes, you can also use the Glow Cleaner to clean fabric or nylon parts such as handles or inserts.
Spray the area, work the cleaner in with a brush and then wipe it off with a clean cloth.
If necessary, you can also help with a little water. For particularly hard-wearing surfaces, we recommend using a suitable impregnation spray afterwards to better protect them from future soiling.
Yes - many inner linings can be easily cleaned with the Glow Cleaner, e.g. made of fabric, nylon, smooth leather or imitation leather.carefully turn the lining outwards, spray it with the cleaner and work it in with the brush. Then simply leave to dry or wipe with a cloth if necessary.
You can repeat the cleaning process for heavier soiling.
It all depends on the ink and the material. Biros can sometimes be removed from fabric or canvas - but rarely without leaving any residue. Biros cannot usually be completely removed from leather, but the stains can often be softened by the Glow Cleaner.
Always test on an inconspicuous area first. And if it is a particularly valuable piece, we recommend professional leather cleaning if in doubt.
Car seats should only be treated with care products recommended by the manufacturer.
Yes - you can use Glowbag not only for handbags, but also for clothing made from smooth leather, for example for your leather jacket, trousers or skirt.
Make-up stains are best treated with the Glow Cleaner and then wiped off with a clean cloth. You should then use the Glow Conditioner to keep the leather supple.
The cleaner is sufficient for artificial leather. Important: Glowbag is not suitable for motorbike clothing - it has a protective function and requires special care products.
Types of leather
The cleaner and conditioner are designed exclusively for smooth or grained leather. It is NOT suitable for open-pored leather such as suede or suede leather or other exotic types of leather such as snake or fish leather.
Basically yes - but with nappa leather it depends very much on the processing and sealing of the leather. Therefore, you should definitely test it on an inconspicuous area before use. If the leather gives off colour or absorbs the cleaner immediately, it is better to proceed very carefully or only apply the conditioner using a cloth.
Patent leather is usually calf or cowhide leather to which several layers of varnish have been applied, which creates a mirror-like shine. Patent leather is therefore very sensitive to temperature. Superficial stains on patent leather can be safely cleaned with the Glow Cleaner.
Canvas is a strong fabric woven from natural fibres such as linen or hemp. Today, man-made fibres such as polyester or polyacrylic are often woven into the fabric to increase its strength. Canvas can be cleaned safely and easily with the Glow Cleaner. However, the conditioner is not necessary for canvas bags
Vachetta leather is a lightly greased, fine cowhide and is generally a natural, untreated leather. It is characterised by darkening as soon as it is worn or exposed to environmental influences - it forms a ‘patina’. This is intentional with LV bags, for example. Vachetta leather is very absorbent and stains easily, for example from rain. If this is not desired, a good impregnation is an advantage. In tests with GLOWBAG, we have noticed that although it is possible to minimise heavy stains and water marks, neither GLOWBAG product is able to reverse the patina or ageing effect. We recommend testing the behaviour of leather and patina on a concealed area before use. If you scroll down, you will find a video about this.
No, Glowbag is exclusively designed for smooth leather. It is NOT suitable for open-pore leather such as suede or exotic types of leather such as snake or fish leather.
Glowbag can be used safely on treated crocodile leather that has been given a finish or on embossed (calf or cowhide) leather with a crocodile look. However, we do not recommend using Glowbag on natural crocodile leather without a finish.
