Most leather care and cleaning products contain waxes and oils that are simply too heavy for the delicate leather of luxury handbags. GLOWBAG is water-based, completely free from wax and alcohol, and provides the leather with exactly the right amount of moisture and nourishment – without any residue. The result is a natural, radiant finish. Water-based natural leather care is not new, but it is rare. The GLOW CLEANER is based on a patented technology and uses plant-based surfactants and conditioning agents instead of harsh chemicals – for effective care and greater sustainability.

The GLOWBAG formula is fully water-based and completely wax-free. Wax-based leather care products seal in dirt rather than removing it – leaving white residue in the pores of the leather and along the stitching, which affects the original appearance. The leather becomes stiffer and heavier, and the colour looks duller and faded. Sticky residue also attracts dust and dirt.

The natural, water-based GLOWBAG formula allows for genuine leather handbag cleaning without residue. The leather can breathe and absorbs subsequent care more effectively – the colour looks refreshed and your handbag leather remains supple and natural.

We recommend cleaning and then caring for your handbag every three to six months. How often exactly depends on use: a bag you carry daily needs more attention than one resting in your wardrobe.

In between, the leather welcomes a short extra treatment with GLOW CONDITIONER, especially on dry or heavily used areas. Bags made from coated canvas need no conditioning, cleaning with GLOW CLEANER is enough.

Yes – we always recommend testing GLOWBAG on a hidden area before the first full application. Leather is a natural material and can react differently to care products depending on its dye, finish or prior treatment.

To check whether your leather is colour-fast, apply a small amount of GLOW CLEANER to a clean microfibre cloth – not directly onto the leather, except for canvas – and gently dab a small area. If colourt ransfers onto the cloth, this indicates that the dye layer is not fully sealed or has already worn. In this case, we recommend extra care: always apply the GLOW CLEANER via the cloth only, and work on one small area at a time.

The same applies to the GLOW CONDITIONER: test first – then apply with confidence.

GLOW CLEANER and GLOW CONDITIONER serve fundamentally different purposes that cannot replace each other.

The GLOW CLEANER cleans. It removes dirt, skin oils, abrasion and surface stains from the leather structure — water-based, pH-neutral, without alcohol or ammonia. It removes, it does not add.

The GLOW CONDITIONER nourishes. After cleaning, it restores moisture and flexibility to the leather. Its active ingredient lanolin — a natural wool fat also used in industrial leather tanning — prevents the leather from drying out and cracking. A thin protective film of polydimethylsiloxane provides additional protection against light moisture.

If you only clean without conditioning afterwards, the leather is left clean but dry. If you only condition without cleaning first, you work dirt and oils deeper into the leather — which can clog the pores and damage the leather structure over time.

Both products together form the GLOW DUO SET. The order is always: GLOW CLEANER first, then GLOW CONDITIONER.

As simple as shampoo and conditioner: the GLOW CLEANER cleanses – and the GLOW CONDITIONER then provides the leather with the nourishment it needs.

Step 1 – Cleanse: Spray the GLOW CLEANER onto your handbag and wipe with a soft, lint-free cloth. For stubborn stains, let it sit briefly, then work in gently with the GLOW BRUSH. Wipe away any residue with the cloth.

Step 2 – Condition: Apply the GLOW CONDITIONER with a clean, soft cloth in a thin, even layer and massage in gently. No buffing required – the leather absorbs the care fully.

Important: Always cleanse before conditioning – this allows the GLOW CONDITIONER to penetrate the leather fully and deliver its maximum effect.

Tip: Always test on a hidden area first. If the GLOW CLEANER beads up and is not absorbed immediately, it can be sprayed directly onto the bag. If it absorbs quickly into the leather, apply it to the microfibre cloth first and clean the bag carefully. See Q4 for more details

Both products can be used to clean canvas handbags – but with different strengths:

GLOW CLEANER: The most versatile leather care solution. It reliably
cleans smooth leather, canvas and bag linings, and contains glycine as a moisturising agent – conditioning the leather during cleaning.

CANVAS GLOW FOAM: Developed specifically for cleaning canvas bags. It contains more surfactants for a more intensive clean – which is also why it has a slightly stronger orange scent. Since it contains no moisturising agent, it should not be used on leather.

In short: The GLOW CLEANER works on everything – leather, canvas
and linings. Use the CANVAS GLOW FOAM on canvas only, for best results on stubborn stains.

Yes — but with one important distinction. Coated canvas, as used by Louis Vuitton for Monogram and Damier patterns and by MCM for Visetos, is not leather. It is a PVC-coated fabric. It is considerably more durable than genuine leather and responds differently to care products.

For these canvas materials, use the CANVAS GLOW FOAM. It was developed specifically for coated surfaces and removes dried-on dirt, stains and residue without attacking the coating. No leather oil, leather balm or conditioner belongs on coated canvas — these products are designed for porous leather surfaces and can leave streaks on canvas or soften the coating over time.

The leather parts of the same bag — handles, straps, trims and edges — are cared for separately with GLOW CLEANER and GLOW CONDITIONER. So if you are cleaning a Louis Vuitton Neverfull, you work with two different products: CANVAS GLOW FOAM for the canvas, GLOW DUO for the Vachetta.

Yes – this can happen with sensitive or highly absorbent leather. The GLOW CLEANER may initially leave darker, damp-looking patches that disappear completely as the leather dries. You can continue cleaning as normal. Use the GLOW BRUSH and allow the leather to air-dry afterwards.

Whether colour transfers onto the cloth depends on the leather's dye: through-dyed leather rarely loses colour. Surface-dyed leather with a worn finish may release colour particles – in that case, we recommend applying only the GLOW CONDITIONER by dabbing.

Important: GLOWBAG is not suitable for suede, nubuck or open-pored leathers. Always test on a hidden area before first use.

The GLOW BRUSH is made from genuine, natural horsehair – it is perfectly normal for a few loose hairs to come out during the first use. This is not a sign of poor quality. Natural hair is never completely uniform, unlike synthetic bristles. After the first shake or use, this will stop, and you will enjoy your GLOW BRUSH for a long time.

Yes – many bag linings can be cleaned effectively with the GLOW CLEANER or CANVAS GLOW FOAM, including fabric, nylon, smooth leather or faux leather. Turn the lining carefully outward and always treat the entire surface evenly – spot-cleaning only can cause tide marks as dirt is drawn outward by moisture.

Spray the GLOW CLEANER onto the lining, work in gently with the GLOW BRUSH, then wipe clean with a soft cloth and allow to dry. Repeat for heavier soiling.

Important: If you use water in addition, always use distilled water only – tap water will leave marks. And as always: test on a hidden area first.

Yes – GLOWBAG can be used on other smooth leather items, such as leather shoes, smooth leather sneakers, belts, wallets and smooth leather clothing like leather jackets, trousers or skirts.

For leather shoes and sneakers, GLOWBAG works especially well for cleaning and caring for the delicate leather surfaces. As shoes are subject to more intensive wear and weather exposure, we also recommend a specialist wax-based shoe conditioner for long-term leather suppleness.

For makeup stains on leather clothing, apply the GLOW CLEANER to the area and wipe with a clean cloth. Follow up with the GLOW CONDITIONER to keep the leather supple. For faux leather, the GLOW CLEANER alone is sufficient.

Not suitable: Suede, nubuck or velour leather, and motorcycle leather – which requires specialist protective products. Always test on a hidden area first.

Ballpoint pen marks on leather are notoriously stubborn – results depend heavily on the ink type and the leather. On leather, they cannot usually be removed completely, but the GLOW CLEANER can often reduce them significantly. On fabric or canvas, removal is sometimes more effective – though rarely without a trace.

The GLOW CONDITIONER provides some water resistance in light rain. For heavier rain or snow, we recommend an additional waterproofing spray. Sensitive leather types such as Vachetta – as found on Louis Vuitton bags – should be treated with a waterproofing spray immediately after purchase, as the GLOW CONDITIONER alone is not sufficient here.

Our recommendation: Carbon Pro by Collonil – one of the best waterproofing sprays for high-quality leather.

Makeup stains on leather can be removed very effectively in most cases with the natural leather care from GLOWBAG. The GLOW CLEANER gently dissolves foundation, powder, lipstick and other makeup residue using plant-based ingredients – without damaging the delicate leather of luxury handbags.

If the GLOW CLEANER beads up on your leather, it can be sprayed directly onto the affected area. If it absorbs quickly, apply the GLOW CLEANER to a soft microfibre cloth and gently dab the stain. For more stubborn marks, work in gently with the GLOW BRUSH and wipe away with a clean cloth. Follow up with the GLOW CONDITIONER to nourish the leather.

Important: The fresher the stain, the better the result – treat it as soon as possible. And as always: test on a hidden area first.

Yes – GLOWBAG uses natural ingredients and is completely free from alcohol, ammonia and other harsh chemicals. The formula is water-based, biodegradable and pH-neutral – gentle on the environment and safe to use, even on sensitive leather types. Our packaging is also registered with the German Dual System (Gruener Punkt).

Start by placing a wipe-clean mat or a towel underneath your bag before beginning leather care. Spray the GLOW CLEANER generously onto the bag and work it in with soft, lint-free cloths in cotton or microfibre. The natural leather care products by GLOWBAG – GLOW CLEANER and GLOW CONDITIONER – are designed exclusively for smooth and grained leathers. GLOWBAG is not suitable for cleaning or caring for suede, velour leather, nubuck or rough-out leather – these open-pored leathers require specialist products.

GLOWBAG is also not suitable for exotic leathers such as snakeskin, crocodile or fish leather. We recommend professional leather cleaning for these delicate materials.

Vachetta is a vegetable-tanned, untreated calfskin with no protective coating or surface treatment whatsoever. This makes it one of the most beautiful yet most delicate leathers in the luxury world. It absorbs everything: water, skin oils, rain, everyday contact. Its defining characteristic is the patina: the leather darkens gradually through light, air, warmth, and use. On Louis Vuitton bags, this ageing effect is intentional and considered a mark of quality.

For new, pale vachetta: do not use GLOWBAG.
For newly purchased bags with vachetta parts, we recommend applying a dry waterproofing spray immediately after purchase, before the leather shows any signs of use. Our recommendation: Carbon Pro by Collonil. Any care product containing fatty or lipid components would cause the pale, open-pored leather to darken immediately.

For patinated vachetta: GLOWBAG is suitable.
Once your bag has developed its natural patina, GLOWBAG can be used. GLOW CLEANER visibly reduces surface soiling and water marks on your leather handbag. GLOW CONDITIONER nourishes the leather and helps stabilise it. What neither the Cleaner nor the Conditioner can do is reverse the patina or fully remove deep, long-standing stains. After treatment, the leather will be a shade darker than before. This is normal with vachetta leather, as it absorbs everything applied to it.

Important: Never spot-test or treat vachetta leather in isolated areas. The absorbent surface marks immediately. Always treat the entire surface evenly and in a single pass – never just one area. The honest answer: no, it cannot be lightened. What many people perceive as dirt is, in most cases, the natural patina — a chemical reaction between the vegetable tanning agents in the leather and oxygen, UV light and skin oils. This reaction creates stable molecular structures that cannot be reversed. No leather care product, no home remedy and no eraser sponge can undo this. Anyone who tries with a melamine foam sponge risks permanently damaging the open-pore leather surface.

What GLOWBAG can do: reduce the appearance of surface stains and visually even out an uneven patina. That is a different promise from lightening — but it is an honest one.

For new, still pale Vachetta handles: do not condition yet, protect instead. A water-repellent spray such as Collonil Carbon Pro shields the open surface before the patina begins. Once the Vachetta has developed an even honey to caramel tone, GLOW CLEANER and GLOW CONDITIONER are the right products — with the realistic expectation that the leather will appear slightly darker after treatment.

Yes. GLOWBAG is very well suited for cleaning and caring for Chanel bags. Chanel uses a range of leather types that differ considerably in delicacy and care requirements. GLOW CLEANER and GLOW CONDITIONER were developed specifically for the delicate leather of luxury handbags, wax-free, alcohol-free, and without harsh chemicals.

Caviar leather (grained calfskin): Chanel's most robust and low-maintenance leather. GLOW CLEANER can be sprayed directly onto the surface and worked in gently with the GLOW BRUSH. Follow up with GLOW CONDITIONER.

Lambskin: The softest and most delicate Chanel leather. Apply GLOW CLEANER exclusively via the cloth, never spray directly, and do not use a brush. Always work across the full surface in even strokes. Follow up with an intensive application of GLOW CONDITIONER.

Calfskin: More finely grained than caviar, softer than lambskin, yet relatively robust. The typical leather of the Boy Bag. GLOWBAG works reliably here.

Aged Calfskin: Structured calfskin with a subtle vintage character, typical of the 2.55 Reissue. Very easy to care for – GLOWBAG works very well here.

Vintage Chanel: For older or very delicate pieces, we recommend starting with GLOW CONDITIONER only. It nourishes and regenerates the leather without placing unnecessary stress on it.

Important: Always test on a hidden area before first use, particularly with lambskin, which is highly absorbent. Always work across the full surface, never spot-treat.

For most smooth-leather Hermès bags such as Togo, Clémence or Epsom, a water-based, alcohol-free care without wax is suitable. GLOWBAG was made for exactly this: GLOW CLEANER (pH 6.5 to 7.5) for gentle cleaning and GLOW CONDITIONER with lanolin and orange oil for care, applied every four to six months.

Important: home remedies like vinegar or olive oil, alcohol-based products and wax are unsuitable, they damage the leather structure. Not every Hermès bag is smooth leather. For patent leather, suede, nubuck or exotics, GLOWBAG is not suitable. Always test any product first on a hidden spot.

Cleaning and caring for nappa leather with GLOWBAG is generally possible – but it depends on how the leather has been processed:

Pigmented and semi-aniline nappa leather can usually be cleaned and conditioned with the natural leather care from GLOWBAG without risk to colour or surface.

Highly absorbent, full-aniline nappa leather is particularly sensitive
to moisture and care products. We do not recommend applying GLOWBAG here, as the colour tone or surface may be affected.

Important: Always test on a hidden area first – this will show early
on how your leather handbag responds to GLOWBAG.

Marks on patent leather handbags can be removed safely with the GLOW CLEANER. Patent leather is typically calfskin or cowhide coated with multiple lacquer layers to create its characteristic mirror finish. As patent leather is very sensitive to heat, we recommend keeping your bag away from direct sunlight and high temperatures.

Important: Apply the GLOW CLEANER to a soft microfibre cloth – do not spray directly. Wipe gently. Do not use the GLOW CONDITIONER on patent leather – the lacquer coating does not absorb conditioning agents.

Caring for Bottega Veneta bags requires special attention – the signature Intrecciato woven leather is made primarily from fine nappa leather, with thin leather strips woven by hand into its distinctive pattern. Depending on the collection, Intrecciato is also available in suede or exotic leathers such as python or crocodile.

Nappa leather Intrecciato (the classic) – GLOWBAG is generally suitable, but requires extra care:

• Use the GLOW CONDITIONER only – do not use the GLOW CLEANER
• Apply by dabbing only –never rub
• Do not use the GLOW BRUSH –the woven structure is very delicate
• Always work across the full surface evenly – never spot-treat

Suede / Velour Intrecciato – not suitable for GLOWBAG; Exotic leather Intrecciato (python, crocodile) – not suitable for GLOWBAG

GLOWBAG is perfectly safe to use on handbags with a crocodile-effect finish – as long as the leather is embossed calfskin or cowhide. These bags are made from classic smooth leather with an embossed pattern, which can be cleaned and conditioned safely with the GLOW CLEANER and GLOW CONDITIONER.

For genuine, natural exotic leathers such as crocodile, snakeskin or fish leather, we do not recommend using GLOWBAG. These leathers have a unique structure and are particularly sensitive to moisture and care products – professional leather cleaning is the better choice.

GLOWBAG is also not suitable for open-pored leathers such as suede, velour or nubuck.

When cleaning leather handbags, it is not uncommon for some colour to transfer onto the cloth. This depends on whether the leather is through-dyed or surface-dyed:

Through-dyed leather is fully saturated with dye, so the colour penetrates deep into the material. This leather rarely loses colour during cleaning – natural leather care with GLOWBAG can be applied safely.

Surface-dyed leather has a colour coating applied to the surface. If this coating is not fully sealed or has already worn, colour particles may be released during cleaning. In this case, apply the GLOW CLEANER via the cloth only – never spray directly. Then apply only the GLOW CONDITIONER by dabbing.

Important: Always test on a hidden area before first use – this will reveal early on how your leather handbag responds to cleaning.

You can spot a high-quality handbag by four things: the leather, the stitching, the hardware and the interior finish. Premium bags usually use full-grain leather, the top layer of the hide with its natural grain intact. The stitching runs evenly and tightly, with no loose threads. Hardware and zips feel weighty and often carry a clean brand engraving. The lining is neatly sewn and sits straight.

Touch is another reliable clue: genuine, high-quality leather smells natural, feels warm and shows an irregular, living grain. A perfectly uniform surface usually points to coated or synthetic material.
